Vanuatu Clothing and Equipment

As you could guess, summer clothes are a must in Vanuatu. Usually some light and casual clothing is enough for all the time spent here. Though to be fully prepared to any weather surprises you might want packing some clothing for cool weather as well (e.g. some light jacket and a pair of long pants). Also, make sure to take a raincoat or umbrella for the case of rainy weather (especially actual in hot wet season).
As about footwear, sandals or thongs will be probably the best choice for most of your activities in Vanuatu, though for some bush walks you can also take the running shoes. Take in account that sometimes your footwear can get muddy, e.g. if you’re going to visit the famous cascading waterfalls or a traditional Vanuatu village, so it can be reasonable taking some old pair for this case.
Take at least a couple of bags to Vanuatu. It is convenient to have a general bag for different stuff during excursions or just while wandering about the town. An extra bag will come in handy when it’s time to go home – surely you will buy a few things while your vacation.
Camera is the thing that you will be using a lot in Vanuatu. There’s a great variety of sights and places to take pictures of. So, take huge memory cards (or plenty of film). Also, don’t forget the underwater disposable camera – very likely you will spend most of your holiday time in water. The water is clear and it brings many opportunities to take nice shots of some colorful tropical fish or a splendid coral. Of course, you can buy it in Port Vila, but it will be more expensive.
You should certainly take the insect repellent (better with DEET). It’s also worth taking band-aids and moisturiser. Some people doubt if they should take malaria pills or just rely on insect repellent with DEET. Whichever option you choose, don’t forget to consult your doctor before taking any medications! And visit him at least 4–6 weeks before your Vanuatu trip to allow time for your vaccines to take effect if you decide to take ones.
Lots of sunscreen is an absolute must. And, of course, good sunglasses. You will be spending much time in the sun every day, especially in the luxurious beaches of Vanuatu islands.
It’s good to have some spare cash with you, as Port Vila markets will offer a great choice of many fascinating things to buy. And, of course, don’t forget your holiday mood, as Vanuatu will endow you with the innumerable exciting experiences and lots of fun!
