Vanuatu Climate Change

Rising sea level

According to one of the annual “happy planet index” investigation results, Vanuatu is the happiest place on earth. Then it’s sadder to see that the changing weather conditions represent the increasing threat to Vanuatu. The rising sea level (as well as the other aspects of climate changes) is no longer a fantastic scenario, it becomes the reality for inhabitants of many small islands hidden in the ocean, Vanuatu is among them.

The climatic changes may soon start affecting various animals and plants population and change the islands landscapes. The unique coral reefs and splendid sand beaches of Vanuatu are in danger; the local farming can be also affected by the shifting weather patterns. Vanuatu population can’t be called wealthy in general and the touristic industry seems to be one of the main income sources for the country; so, some urgent measures should be taken to stop the climate change.

The climatologists state that the problem is in carbon emissions level that is still staying high all over the world. The more prominent countries should be definitely interested in saving Vanuatu paradise. And it’s not just about investing in its economy and culture, one of the first required steps is at least stabilizing carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere. Of course, this is a very hard and complex decision, but the humanity will scarcely avoid it if it wants to keep the planet green and beautiful.
